# 2960  2019 Season Wrap Up

Batavia joined with both Attica and Notre Dame (to form what we canlled BAND) and otherwise the teams remained the same with thirty-five playing in Section Five this year. There were 1,129 players on the rosters at the during of the season and 914 on the final rosters. Fairport carried the largest roster with forty-one players and Spencerport had the smallest with sixteen.

# 2936  Monroe County Awards for 2019

The All Star list is out recognizing the Monroe County League players for the 2019 season. Senior  defenseman Sutton Boland (Victor), senior attackman Jack Brennan (Irondequoit) and senior face off midfielder Shawn Fingar (Hilton) were named US Lacrosse All Americans from Monroe County.

# 2929  2019 All-Americans Announced

*+The Head Coaches of Section Five recently considered players who had been nominated for All-American and All-Academic awards. The awards, sponsored by US Lacrosse, identify some of the best players from each area around the country. Each of the Head Coaches in the section is allowed to vote on each of the awards.

# 2913  Fairport Advances to Class A Finals

Top seeded Fairport came out and strong and finished even stronger in their 11-6 win over fifth seeded Penfield.  The Red Raiders came into tonight's contest looking for revenge from last season's 9-8 loss in the Championship matchup.  The Patriots led that game for nearly the entire contest and held off a late advance by the Red Raiders.  Tonight, the game was the opposite with Fairport taking control and the Patriots looking for the comeback.

# 2901  Season Ends with 5 One-Goal Games

Thursday: DAY IN REVIEW: With only one game left to be played when Eastridge and Marcus Whitman meet on Friday, the last big day of teh regularseason came to an end with lots of close games. Wayne beat Midlakes 12-11, Marcus Whitman beat Mynderse 12-11 in overtime, Pal-Mac beat Geneva in overtime and Thomas beat Penn Yan 5-4.

# 2885  Brighton Wins at Pittsford

Tuesday: DAY IN REVIEW: Brighton fought back from a two goal deficit at the end of the third quarter to defeat Pittsford in overtime 10-9. In overtime, both teams had attempts at the cage. Pittsford goalie Brecken Catalano recorded 2 of his 14 saves in overtime, but with 0:47 left in the first overtime period, Casey McDermott scored unassisted to give Brighton the win.

# 2851  Penfield Defense Steps up in Overtime Win

Penfield scored four unanswered goals to end the third quarter and begin the fourth quarter in their 7-6 overtime win against Victor.  The Patriots were down by three halfway through the third quarter before they began their scoring streak.  The fourth goal of the stretch gave Penfield the lead with 3:07 left on the clock and forced Victor to send the game into overtime.  In the first overtime period, Victor won the face-off, but could not get a shot on cage before Penfield cleared the ball upfield and scored on their first shot.  Max Hoadley scored his second goal of the game unassisted to give the win to the Patriots.

Saturday: DAY IN REVIEW: Section Five teams dominated against Section Six today, winning six of the eight games played. Winning were McQuaid Jesuit, Penfield, Thomas, Pittsford, Greece and Penn Yan. Brighton lost to St. Joseph (13-11) and Aquinas lost to Canisius (10-4).In a Section Five matchup Wayne defeated Marcus Whitman.

# 2838  Penfield Comes Back to Give OP First Loss

Penfield delivered Orchard Park their first loss of the season with a comeback win over the Quakers.  The Patriots won 10-8 after scoring the final four goals of the game and holding Orchard Park scoreless for the final six minutes of the game.  Michael Mitchell scored two of the final four goals and finished with 4g on the game.  Overall, Travis Wagner’s performance in the cage was the lynchpin for the Patriots.  He finished with 21 saves (72%) including multiple point blank saves.  John Richiusa finished 10/15 at the draw and won four straight draws to keep the ball in the Patriot half for the four goal stretch.

# 2832  Hilton Wins in Overtime

Hilton fought back from an early deficit to defeat Penfield 8-7 in the first overtime period.  The Cadets scored the game winning goal 3:28 into the first overtime period with an unassisted goal from Brenden Howell.  The Cadets controlled the ball for the majority of overtime and didn’t allow the Patriots a shot at the cage in overtime.  Hilton scored three of the final four goals in the game after trailing 0-3 after the first 10 minutes.

# 1418  Penfield Advances to Finals

In the second game of the Class A double-header second seeded Penfield defeated third seeded Greece Storm 13-5 to move on the Semi-Finals.  The Patriots will move on to face top seeded Fairport at St. John Fisher College on Tuesday.  This is the first time Penfield has made the Finals since 2015.  The last time that Penfield won the big game was 2013.

# 1386  Penfield over Orchard Park on Friday

Thursday: DAY IN REVIEW: Penfield scored the first goal on Senior Night and never trailed in their 8-4 win over Orchard Park. Penfield was led in scoring by Jack Joyce with 2g-3a. Joyce assisted the first three goals for the Patriots. The first two were almost identical with outside passes to high shots. The first was scored by Michael Mitchell and the second by Jason Berardicurti. Orchard Park scored the first goal with Cayden Collins feeding Ben Ingalls on a high left flat. The third goal saw Joyce assisting on a give and go with Joey Barboza scoring with a high-rising underhand shot. The Patriots led 3-1 after 12 minutes.

Thursday: DAY IN REVIEW: There were fourteen games played today, some in the snow, but all in the cold. Most games were not very close but Mynderse fought back from a 6-3 deficit to defeat Waterloo 8-7. Penfield defeated Pittsford and Midlakes beat the Pride. Victor, Gananda and Thomas all remain undefeated.

# 1345  Penfield Scores Six of Last Seven in Win

Penfield scored the final three goals of the game to defeat West Islip 9-7.  The Lions have played a tough opening schedule and are currently 1-4, with their most recent loss to Ward Melville in OT 6-5.  The Patriots, now 3-1, came into today’s game off their lone loss to West Genesee earlier in the week.
